Cat Anatomy 101: Part 4 : The Ears

Ears. For us human, ears basically are used for hearing sound. However, there are few different uses of ears for cats.

Cats ears can pick up the low scale of sound as good as human being. However, cats had the advantage to hear more high frequency sound up to 64 kHz. Which mean that cat ears are more sensitive than ours. This sensitive ears give them advantage especially when cat stalking it preys. Or protecting themselves from danger.

"I can hear that!!"

Cats ears design so that it can move it towards any sound that the ears picked up. This special movement created by a number of 32 muscles that work together to direct its ears towards the sound sources.

Beside moving its ears for detection sound, ears movement can also show a cat expression. In other words, what is the cat felt at that particular time. For example, cat tend to pull back its ears when its was angry or afraid. This particular movement comes with either hiss or growl sound.

To test your cat's ears sensitivity, just try to wiggle their toys in a distance. Normally it will hear the sound and start running towards you!

Cat Anatomy 101: Part 3 : The Mouth

Hi! Welcome to the third part of cat Anatomy 101, the mouth. For the last two part, i already post regarding the basic characteristic and function of the cat's leg and claw. Now lets talk a bit about the mouth.

As we know, mouth are use for eating. Cats mouth had a special design that   primarily for tearing up meat or bringing down their preys. Have you ever watch lioness bring down their preys in a documentary?

To tear up meat, cats use their scissored functioned teeth to makes things easier for them.

What are the use of their tongue? of course for cats to groom themselves after enjoying their meals of just wake up from sleep.

Last of all, the main function of cat mouth is for communication. How they communicate will be describe in some other post. hope you guys will keep on reading f0or more information on cat.

Cat Anatomy 101: Part 2: The Leg

Do you know that a cat walk inline? Further more, this style of walking able a cats to walk quietly. This inline walk can be categorized as digitigrades animal. Animal that have four leg walk in this style. For example horses, dogs, wolf and many other similar mammal.

Why is called digitigrades? Digitigrades animal walk only on their toes. which means their body weight bearded by the toes.

what are the advantage of these awesome features to cats? The advantage are listed below:

• The hind leg are directly position behind their fore leg. The straight position of hind leg (paw) able to ensure the hind leg steps on the same path as the fore leg (paw)  as cats walk through a ragged area. Their fore leg steps ensuring a safe steps because of the hind leg will follow the same steps.

• Reduce noise expecially when cats stalking for preys.

• Digitigrades design of the hind leg give cat the advantage in jumping a certain and able to absorb the momentum when fall off from a certain height too.

Cat Anatomy 101: Part 1: The Claws

Cat claws. What are their main primary function? As we seen on most of National Geographic Channel, Their bigger brothers like the tiger or lions use their claws (combined function with their teeth off course) to hunt their preys. Cats do use it for similar function, only they hunt for smaller preys like birds, bats or mouse.

The basic features of the claws are they are rectactable and hide under their toe pads when not in use. This function able to avoid the sharped claws become blunt due to too much contact with ground. This soft fury toe pads also producing no noise feature as they use it to stalk preys.

Remember in my previous post i do mention about choosing the right toys? that is what the toe pad other function. Preventing the claws from broken while their playing. However, The curved design characteristic of the claw sometime resulting their claws accidentally stuck onto the carpet or any other furry stuff.

The is another part of cat claw that may become a contributing factor for cat to jump. It called carpal pad. It can be recognized as the carpal pad is located at the inside wrists of cats front paws.

In one of my earlier post, I’ve talked about the age of a cat. 

Cats’ age is six times than human being. So cat do have a shorter lifetime. How ever, cats can give birth to anew babies for almost 2-3 times per year. In each litter cat able to give birth to 1 - 10 kittens. Amazing is it?
Similar to us human, cats do carry their babies during the pregnancy period before giving birth. However, cats only carry their babies for only 2-3 month. During the pregnancy period, cats can also face with miscarry. In that case, a well balance food and supplement can avoid this from happening. Furthermore, cats not only carry one but sometime 4 to 5 babies at one time. 

A normal and healthy cat litters many times during its lifetime. So, can you imagine how many kitten a cats can produce? Friendly speaking for almost 100 kittens! There’s a lot of kitten to feed.haha.

Choosing the right toys

In my last post, i'ved talk about ideas to train your cats to jump higher. Have anybody try it? I'ved talk about hanging their favourite toys in a certain height. How ever,there are few things to consider before you start to hang the toys.

Things that owner (we people) should consider is:

1. Choose light toys (for tossing) so that it wont hit and injured them.

2. Cats claw are like human nails. So, choose soft toys for them. Avoid giving them hard toys like golf balls or marbles. It can broke their claw.

3. Depend on what size your cats is. Do not let them play with small toys as to avoid them chocking in even of accidently swallowed.

Do cats jump?how height it can be?

7 times its own height?? Do cats really can jump up to that height? Or they can do better? Do their blood type, or breed can be a contributing factor?

First of all, i do think that it no impossible.many factors can affect the ability of a cat to achieved a certain height, such as the cats breed, male or female, age, or even the cats health itself.

Cat owners can also train their cats to be able to jump higher and better. A good example of exercise is to play with them. The easiest way is to tie up height their favourite toys or even just a simple fury rope in a certain height. Owner can encouraged the cats to jump by simply wiggle the tied up toys. And then u can see how much your cat will jump.

Frequent exercises of this game will train your cat hind leg muscles to function better. And if you're lucky, your cat will be able to jump seven times or more in height .. good luck!

Cats blood types

Cats blood grouping contains three major blood type that is A, B and AB type. Some research says that these blood type called as AB blood type. What ever they called it, it is still the same blood type that run through the cat veins.

There are many research done all over the world regarding the cats blood. Some research can even determine which blood type is the most found in common domestic cats. For example type A blood. How ever, it may give a different count due to the cats breed and its where about in the world.

Regardless how many research done throughout the world, to make it easier to understand, A type is the most common blood type for cats and the ranking is followed by B type blood. The AB type is the most less type and most rare one. Easier to understand right?

Age of a cat

Do you know that a 1 years old cat age equal to 6 years old of a normal human being? Which mean if one own a cat for 10 years,it age is equal to a 60 years old man?amazing is it!

Strayed Cats

Have you ever come across or with some cute cats while you dine in restaurants or when you want to enter your car in the car park? What is playing on your mind then? Should we help these cute cats or just ignore them? Hmm....what shall we do about them? Should we just ignore these cats or should we take care of them?

Anyway, what does word strayed cats stand for? Just simply googled it over the internet and you'll find the answer. To make it simple, let’s just define it as homeless cats. Easy and understandable. But it is not as easy as it meaning.

What are the main causes in increasing number of strayed cats? Being left behind by their owner is the answer or main contributing factor. As we know, a female cats can litter or give birth 2-3 times per year with average of 1-10 kitten per litter. Can u imagine how many cats they can multiply?

How to control the increasing number of strayed cats? Local authority that specialist in pet control should take appropriate measure to overcome this phenomena. However cats owner should take their part too. What they should do is to avoid abandoned their unwanted cats without considering the outcome of the action. Cats owner should think positively. The other option is just by hand over the cats to the pet control agency.   

We have a lot of cats lover that willing to give shelter to strayed cats. Why not we take the same measure too? Just think about it.

A 'purring' Introduction to cats

Cats are pets that like to be pampered and like attention. It will show its gratitude by staying by our side and letting themselves to be pampered. However, keeping cats require some knowledge up on the cat. Among them are about their type of food, playtime and its toys, and would not be wrong if we know way to treat a cat if they get sick.

Some are comparing cats to dogs. Some say cats are not as loyal as dogs. However, it has become a part of every pet have its own advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, cat are not the own who like to take a pee to a fire hydrant, right?
